On 23 May 2025, the Republic of Chile became the 50th member to ratify the Constitutive Agreement transforming the EU-LAC Foundation into an international organisation. Chile's ratification entered into force on 22 June.

The ratification represents a clear demonstration of Chile's strong commitment to advancing the objectives of the organisation, whose purpose is to strengthen relations between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean. With this action, Chile actively supports the essential and invaluable work of the EU-LAC Foundation in promoting mutual knowledge and understanding between the governments and civil societies of both regions.

The Constitutive Agreement entered into force on 17 May 2019, marking the first international treaty negotiated jointly by the 61 members of the Strategic Partnership between the EU and CELAC countries. Since then, the EU-LAC Foundation has been operating as an international organisation, as established by the Heads of State and Government of the 60 Member States of both regions, as well as by the European Union itself.

The European Union, through the General Secretariat of the Council, provides authoritative information on the status of the Constitutive Agreement, including information on the signatories of the Agreement, ratification and entry into force, which can be accessed here.
