Dr. Anna Barrera is Director of Programmes at the European Union – Latin American and the Caribbean International Foundation (EU-LAC Foundation). Next to keeping oversight of the smooth running of the organisation’s programmes, she is responsible for the field of knowledge generation on bi-regional relations through dialogues, analyses and publications, and supports the execution of activities in the realms of multilateralism, democracy, climate and environment and gender equality - in the context of the EU-LAC Women's International Network.

Beforehand, she gathered extensive professional experience in scientific research, development cooperation and international relations at institutions such as the Bucerius Law School, Episcopal Action Adveniat, GLS Future Foundation for Development, UN WOMEN and UNDP. 

Dr. Anna Barrera has an academic background in political science and public law from the Free University of Berlin. During her PhD in Political Science at the University of Hamburg and the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA), she specialised in Human Rights, Indigenous Peoples, Legal Pluralism and Gender Relations in the Andean Region. She recently finished an Executive MBA at Vlerick Business School, Belgium.
