On 21 and 22 May, the XIV Strategic Triangle Summit: Latin America and the Caribbean – Europe – Africa took place in Lisbon. The event was co-sponsored by the EU-LAC Foundation and organised by the Institute for the Promotion of Latin America and the Caribbean (IPDAL).
Our Executive Director, Alberto Brunori, opened the second day of the meeting with a presentation on the organisation’s work, particularly in light of the upcoming EU-CELAC Summit scheduled for November 2025 in Colombia. He also highlighted the EU-LAC Foundation’s commitment to values such as dialogue, cooperation, and multilateralism in a geopolitical context marked by interdependence and threats to global security.

Held under the theme “Learning from the Past, Looking to the Future” the event brought together global leaders, experts, and policymakers to discuss key challenges in intercontinental relations, including sustainable economic development and the empowerment of younger generations.
The Strategic Triangle Summit created a space for tri-regional dialogue between Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Africa. It fostered strong partnerships in response to shared challenges and identified opportunities to promote peace, development, and shared prosperity. The exchange also led to the formulation of proposals aimed at enriching public policy and contributing to a more balanced, inclusive, and sustainable future for the three regions.
During his visit to Lisbon, Alberto Brunori met with Cristina Moniz, Director-General for European Affairs at the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They discussed the EU-LAC Foundation’s activity plan in preparation for the EU-CELAC Summit. The Portuguese Foreign Ministry reiterated its support for the organisation’s work.
Brunori also held a meeting with Cristina Manzano from the External Relations team at the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) to explore future avenues of collaboration.
