Meeting with Eva Granados, the Secretary of State for International Cooperation

The EU-LAC Foundation authorities undertook a working mission to Spain to engage in discussions with partner and collaborating entities of the organisation, as part of the multi-annual strategic planning process for the period 2025–2028. The delegation held important meetings with various key institutions, furthering the consolidation of relationships and exploring new opportunities for collaboration.

 

In Madrid, President José Antonio García Belaúnde and Executive Director Alberto Brunori held a productive meeting with Eva Granados, the Secretary of State for International Cooperation. During the meeting, they explored potential areas for collaboration in gender, knowledge, and development financing within the framework of European Union–Latin America and Caribbean relations and the upcoming EU-CELAC Summit.

Belaúnde and Brunori also met with Mariano Jabonero, Secretary General of the Organisation of Ibero-American States (OEI). In this meeting, both organisations identified areas of convergence in their agendas and expressed interest in expanding the existing collaboration.

Additionally, they met with Andrés Allamand, Secretary General of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), to deepen collaboration between the two organisations, identifying shared priorities and renewing interest in working on projects of mutual interest.

The EU-LAC Foundation team visited Casa de América, where they were received by León de la Torre Krais, the institution's Director-General. In this meeting, they shared a common interest in strengthening collaboration through projects that promote bi-regional dialogue.

The EU-LAC delegation also held talks with Ignacio Corlazzoli, Manager for Europe, Asia, and the Middle East at the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF). This meeting allowed them to identify potential collaborative opportunities in strategic areas such as security and development financing.

José Antonio García Belaúnde and Alberto Brunori also met with Ramón Jauregui and Luisa Peña, President and Director of the Euroamerica Foundation, respectively, as well as Carlos Malamud, Senior Researcher at the Elcano Royal Institute. In both conversations, a shared interest was confirmed in essential topics for the work planned for the coming year.

The agenda in Madrid concluded with a meeting with Erika Rodríguez, Director of the Fundación Carolina. During this fruitful meeting, they reviewed the positive outcomes of the current collaboration between both institutions and agreed on key issues for 2025.

Visit to the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI)

In Barcelona, President José Antonio García Belaúnde and Executive Director Alberto Brunori visited the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI), where they were welcomed by Professor Jacint Jordana and Professor Andrea Bianculli. During this meeting, they discussed the role of the EU-LAC Foundation as a partner of the LAC-EU Doctoral Network.

The delegation also met with Dr. Anna Ayuso at the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB) to review the outcomes of the recent Summit of the Future and explore new areas of collaboration to strengthen bi-regional ties.

The EU-LAC Foundation concluded this mission in Barcelona and Madrid with significant achievements, advancing the consolidation of strategic relationships and laying the foundations for deeper collaboration with various partners. These meetings reinforce the organisation's commitment to promoting a shared agenda that addresses challenges and maximises opportunities for bi-regional cooperation.
