Tequio - Open House Day

Tequio in the Milpa is a community activity focused on collective work within an 80 m² plot cultivated under the traditional milpa system. It is aimed at people interested in plants, their associations, and their role in agroecological systems. During the gathering, practical tasks are carried out such as pruning, control and recognition of cultivated and spontaneous plants, observation of species associations, and basic maintenance tasks. The exchange of knowledge about edible and medicinal uses of plants present in the milpa is also promoted. Additionally, it includes moments of tasting collected species —such as quelites, flowers, infusions or fruits—, and spaces for conversation and reflection on the link between cultivation, food, and community. The activity is based on the principle of tequio, understood as collaborative and selfless work for the common benefit.
