VI Academic Summit (EU–LAC)

VI Cumbre Académica UE-ALC

The 6th European Union – Latin America and Caribbean (EU–LAC) Academic Summit will take place on 9 and 10 October 2025 at Universidad Externado de Colombia.

This important academic event will be held in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, the Ministry of National Education, the European Union, the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá, the Permanent Academic Forum (FAP) for EU–LAC Bi-regional Dialogue, the Andean Parliament, the EU–LAC Foundation, the Colombian Association of Universities (ASCUN), the Organisation of Ibero-American States (OEI), and the Institut des Amériques (France).

The purpose of the Summit is to bring together official governmental delegations and representatives from the academic sector to analyse the current situation and future challenges in higher education, science, technology and innovation within the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean. This will take place within the framework of building the EU–LAC Common Area for Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, and in preparation for the proposals to be presented at the 4th CELAC–EU Summit 2025.

Dr Anna Barrera, Programme Director of the EU–LAC Foundation, will take part on Thursday 9 October in the panel “Experiences of Advanced Academic Cooperation in EU–LAC Relations.” She will also deliver the closing remarks on Friday 10 October.

This event continues the work of the five previous academic summits, held within the framework of Chapter 9 on Higher Education of the 2015 CELAC–EU Action Plan and subsequent declarations, endorsed by the EuroLat Parliamentary Assembly (Santo Domingo Declaration, 2023).

In this sixth edition, the academic, research and institutional communities, along with all actors committed to strengthening higher education, are invited to participate actively and share ideas and proposals that contribute to the development of the EU–LAC Common Area for Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation. The goal is to move towards an EU–LAC Academic Integration Agreement as the outcome of this collaborative process.
